Min G+ uppsats

Alcohol - an important part of students' lives

It is Friday night and another rough week at the university is over. Some students just found out they passed a big exam, some failed and have to do it all over again. Regardless whether the feeling at the moment is joy or sadness it always feels better to have someone to share it with.

The number-one thing that brings students together is alcohol. Everyone has their own reasons to get drunk once in a while - but why? Why do university students consume so much alcohol?

One reason is to make new friends. Alcohol consumption has become a big social activity among students. Even the shyest person will feel brave enough to talk to other university students after a couple of drinks.

Antother reason is that students have certain expectations to live up to. Other students expect you to enjoy partying and most often a students' party entails high alcohol consumption. Many people find it hard to be sober when everyone else is drunk so they just go with the flow.

The final and most important reason to drink a lot of alcohol is celebration. There is always something to celebrate. When first-year-students start a new program they party for weeks. Later on in the semester there is almost one celebration every week: when you have just done an exam, when it is Friday, when it is Saturday, and when you have just found out that you passed an exam. Even if a student fails an exam he or she tends to leave the failure behind and to start looking forward in life after a bottle of wine.

To fit into a typical students' environment you need to let yourself go and be drunk once in a while. Even if you are shy and lonely as a student, drinking alcohol can make you talk and you will get the courage to make new friends. No matter how good or bad you do on the exams, your friends are expecting you to celebrate with alcohol.
